It beholds the potency of a wish, dream, or creative vision that will come to fruition for the wearer.

The beautiful shades of turquoise blue crystals and peacock blue freshwater cultured pearls create a beautiful symphony to complement the blue sculpted and painted pendant. This necklace expresses a mood of harmony, certainty, peace and clarity. It reflects the cool blue waters of the sea and the distant clear skies.

I put the finishing touches on this necklace today. It is the last one to complete in 2011. The necklace has two strands. It is composed of different size beads: Aurora borealis Swarovski crystals, freshwater cultured pearls and blue Czech crystals. A freshwater cultured pearl nestles inside the pendant. It sits there as a symbol of a wish, dream, creative vision or promise that will come to fruition for the wearer.

There is something very amazing, tranquil and powerful about this piece when seeing it in person. And, it feels so comfortable around the neck. The pendant glows from several layers of powdered pigments and paint. The necklace radiates a special brilliance and is sure to bring a sense of clarity and calmness to the wearer.

Eternal Embrace has a New Owner

Eternal Embrace is one of those alluring necklaces that radiates rejuvenation and vitality. I carefully created delicate and shapely leaves to overlap one another to express a union of balance and harmony. I created the pendant from clay and powdered pigments and used Swarovski and Czech crystals and cat's eye beads for the strand and also to adorn the pendant.

Today I sold it to Kim, a beautiful multi-talented artist who lives in North Dakota. I will tell you more about her in another blog post.

Positive Affirmation

It is important for me to energize each necklace with positive energy. I focus on the beauty of nature and divine inspiration during every step of the process. I include an Affirmation Card with each one. For Eternal Embrace I wrote:

"Starry Night", is a one-of-a-kind sculpted and painted pendant on a strand of Aurora Borealis Swarovski crystals and fire polished crystals. The sculpted and painted pendant measures 2-1/2" in length and the necklace is 15" long with a 2-1/2" extender chain for a total of 17-1/2". The pendant has a bicone Aurora Borealis Swarovski crystal in center.

Crystals Swirling in Kaleidoscope Worlds

Inspiration from Crystals, Kaleidoscopes and Klimpt

I love crystals, metallic colors and kaleidoscopes. So, in the midst of creating many Jewelry of Art pieces I sit down, meditate, and create these paintings in metallic colors. I wondered, if my beads, crystals and pendants were to come to life swirling on a canvas, and fit for a queen, what would that look like?

Unfortunately, the glowing metallic colors do not photograph well and do not come close to capture the brilliancy you see in person.

Somehow Gustav Klimpt, most notably his famous painting Adele Bloch-Bauer I, must have resonated with me as I worked on the painting above. (Did you know that his painting was purchased for the Neue Galerie New York by Ronald Lauder for a reported US $135 million?)

This painting of mine, "Woman, Crystals & Gemstones in a Kaleidoscope World", is 12" x 12" x 1-3/" (photographed on an angle so you can see the reflections of gold, silver and copper and the sides that have also been painted). This painting will soon be for sale, but I assure you it will be much more affordable.

"Butterflies, Crystals and Gemstones in a Kaleidoscope World" is 12" x 12" x 1-3/8" on canvas. A collector of my Jewelry of Art is interested in buying this painting when I offer it for sale. I currently have 8 paintings in this series and will be offering them for sale when I complete 10 or 12 in the series. They are so joyfully relaxing to create. The Goddess Series Continues

The Goddess Series, which could also be called the Petal/Leaf Series, is a popular design that I started a few years ago. I return to it often. Since I only create one-of-a-kind pieces, no two are alike.

As I create each piece I celebrate Mother Nature and the Goddess in all of us. During the creative process I smile with pure joy! I often imagine women wearing them in exaltation of life or sitting on their thrones like the Queens they are.

Purple Passion

Celebrate Your Inner Goddess!

At this time of year, the Goddess Series seem to have a special allure as my customers look forward to celebrating their inner Goddess and attending festivities and for giving as holiday gifts to their fellow Goddesses in their lives.

Purple Passion is a new addition to the Goddess series. I completed it this week. All petals and beads have been individually sculpted and painted in glowing shades of lavender and purple and given a shiny surface treatment. They are on a strand with aurora borealis crystals and fire polished crystals.

The necklace gracefully frames the neck. It has an extender chain, so it can be worn higher or lower.

I photographed myself in the mirror so you could see how it looks. I love wearing this style necklace because it is so versatile. I can wear it comfortably with a pair of jeans or with a dress and Swarovski earrings.

Forest Goddess

Forest Goddess, above, is also a one-of-a-kind necklace from the same series. Each petal was individually sculpted and painted. I used many petals that graduate in size and subtle nuances of different colors.

The sculpted and painted petals are on a strand of aurora borealis crystals and tiny turquoise fire polished crystals.

You can just imagine the enormous variety of designs and colors that can grow from this series.

Carnelian Delight, The First in the Goddess Series

Carnelian Delight was probably the first necklace I designed that led to this series of having petals and/or leaves gently placed around the neck. Little did I know where this idea would take me as time went on. The sculpted and painted leaves are on a strand of carnelian and fire polished crystals. The leaves are smaller is size than the petals above.The leaves have impressions of wings on them and the colors range from yellow ochre, to burnt umber, to orange and green.

Little did she know she would step inside my Jewelry of Art showroom. Within 20 minutes "Golden Clouds on a Silver Day" was on her neck and she made it her own.

Tomorrow Mary Lou and her husband will be flying off to Romania. My necklace will be having the time of its life! Mary Lou's birthday is in June, so she really likes Pearls! Being a world traveler, I think she also responded to the Asian inspired piece.

A Celebration of Mutual Respect

The best form of praise is when an individual you have tremendous admiration for buys one of your works. Especially when they are so very talented themselves.

She recently paid me a visit in my showroom and selected "Inner Treasure & Contemplation", a one of a kind necklace I created. This original piece features a mixed media sculpture for the pendant and a strand of freshwater cultured pearls and crystals. The colors are bright, warm and golden -- so much like Ann's personality.

Ann purposely selected this piece to wear at an art opening where her work will be included in a group exhibition at Rogue Space, Chelsea Fine Arts Building, 526 West 26th Street, 9E-9F, New York, NY. The opening reception is September 23, from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.

Pop-up Preview of Cecil Beaton Exhibition
To Open at the Museum of the City of New York

Last night, I attended a pop-up preview, “Cecil Beaton and the 1930s,” at the New York Design Center with my good friend Peggy Donovan. The event was in anticipation of “Cecil Beaton: The New York Years,” a show that will be opening at the Museum of the City of New York, in October.

Located at 200 Lexington Avenue, in Manhattan, the New York Design Center is the country's oldest furniture and design building housing 33,000 square feet of extraordinary antiques and 20th century design from top designers.

The exhibition that will take place at the Museum of the City of New York is curated by Donald Albrecht and Phyllis Magidson, curators associated with the Museum. (They are both on my to do list to interview for the Manhattan Arts Reading Room.) Located at 1220 Fifth Avenue at 103rd Street, The Museum of the City of New York celebrates and interprets the city, educating the public about its distinctive character, especially its heritage of diversity, opportunity, and perpetual transformation. Founded in 1923 as a private, nonprofit corporation, the Museum connects the past, present, and future of New York City. It serves the people of New York and visitors from around the world through exhibitions, school and public programs, publications, and collections.

Ah, The Warm Glow of Carnelian

The Stone of Creativity and Nourishment

This time of the year I normally sell a lot of Carnelian necklaces, so I recently created this piece and several others, that I've mixed with pearls and other stones.

This year, the orange, reds and rust colors are bigger than ever in fashion. Have you noticed New York magazine's picture of a bold trench coat in bright orange?

I for one, do not follow the trends, and you won't see me in an orange coat. But among my favorite necklaces are those that wake up my neutral fashions and always bring a splash of excitement to beige, brown and black outfits. This piece looks great with Jeans, too.

The warm orange and brown tones of Carnelian bring such warmth and exuberance to this necklace.

I enjoy using a variety of different shapes of the same stone together which add a lot of visual interest and texture. This necklace is so comforting to the touch and very smooth against the skin.

There is something so special about Carnelian that reminds us of the warm sensation of being in love or watching the glow in a fireplace or walking through the woods in early fall.

Carnelian, an agate stone, is believed to nourish, protect, revitalize, and bring good fortune and courage to the wearer. It also increases creativity. It also one of the birthstones for Virgo and Leo.

The Healing Power and High Energy of Carnelian

Last night I was relaxing and perusing pages from one of my books on gemstones, The Crystal Bible, A Definitive Guide to Crystals, by Judy Hall. As the title suggests it is a very comprehensive book.

I want to share with you some wonderful new discoveries about the power of Carnelian. It is a stone I use frequently. The color is rich and warm and varies in shades from reddish brown to golden to orange and even slight pink.

New Beads Inspire New Designs

A new order just arrived bringing tons of new beads including luscious strands of round Rose Quartz and beautiful blue Amazonite. Amazonite is associated with the throat Chakra. It helps to balance the emotions and gives physical stamina. It is known to promote kindness and practicality and is an excellent stone for artists! Although named after the Amazon River most of its supply comes from the United States and Australia.

Enchanting Silver Lotus

Bali Silver Adds Dimension

I was in an exotic mood when I created this enchanting piece that celebrates the beautiful Lotus blossom. In Buddhism, lotus flowers mean purity of speech, mind and body rising above the waters of desire and attachment.The Egyptians used the lotus to symbolize the sun and rebirth. Lotuses in Hinduism symbolize prosperity, beauty, fertility, eternity and eternal youth.

I shaped the pendant in the form of a flower then I added detailed textures and designs to it. I finished it by painting it with silver and gold leaf. I used Aurora Borealis Swarovski crystals to add sparkle to the pendant. The necklace has been strung with more Swarovksi crystals, black crystals and Bali silver spacer beads.

Bali silver is sterling silver made on the island of Bali, in Indonesia in the Indian Ocean. The Balinese are highly skilled silversmiths, known for their granulation and wirework decoration. Each bead or bead cap is made one by one with patience and skill.

Renée donated one of her Jewelry of ART pieces for the "Dickens Holiday Gala" and Auction sponsored by The Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller, on December 4, 2009, at The Tuxedo Club.

Proceeds from the sale went to benefit the hungry through The Center For Food Action in NJ and The Highbridge Community Life Center for the Elderly and Homeless in NY.

Shown here is Renee with Dame Terrie O'Connor, DSJ, Chairperson of the committee that organized this event.

Terrie O'Connor was delighted that she placed the highest bid on Renee's Jewelry of ART and is now the owner of the one-of-a-kind piece. It features Renee's sculpted and painted pendant, amethyst stones and Aurora Borealis Swarovski crystals.

Roses: Eternal Love

Flowers have always been an inspiration in my art, so it is no surprise they appear often in my Jewelry of ART pieces. I also love to combine pinks and greens. For this piece titled "Roses: Eternal Love" I paired lush green Peridot with hot pink Swarovski crystals. I applied powdered pigments on the pear shaped pendant to achieve a luminescent rosy pink glow. So very feminine!

ABOUT PERIDOT
Peridot is the Astrological Stone for Leo, Virgo, Scorpio, and Sagittarius. It is the birthstone for those born in August.

The ancients believed that Peridot was the stone of springtime, a gift from Mother Nature.

Peridot is particularly good for healing the healers. It has been called a Visionary stone and many believe it releases negative vibrations, and promotes clarity and well being.

I also recently read that Peridot is affiliated with money and may attract it to the wearer (perhaps because of the color green.) I think I will create more pieces with Peridot!

My paintings and Jewelry of ART are in such perfect harmony. They each give me so much bliss during the creation of them. I enjoy viewing them together after they are completed. They are two different pure expressions of my innate reverence for nature, my fascination with reflection and texture and my love for the expressive powers of color. Ancestral Journey with Carnelian

This clay pendant has been etched with many fine details -- wings, spirals -- and more which makes it very interesting to look at and very soothing and tactile to the touch. This pendant has been strung with jasper, carnelian, and fire polished crystals. The carnelian stones are faceted, reflective and varied in orange shades.

Carnelian is found primarily in India, as well as various sites in South America. It was once considered strictly the property of the noble class. It is considered to be an energy booster and associated with the second chakra!

The pendant size: 2-5/8" long x 1-3/8" wide. Length of necklace is 24" and has a sterling silver "S" hook.

"Brave Heart" in Amethyst

Brave Heart, handsculpted and painted pendant with aurora borealis Swarovski crystals on pendant and on necklace. Strung with aurora borealis Swarovski crystals and faceted amethyst stones. Size of pendant 2" high x 2" wide. Length of necklace: 14-1/2" with extender for up to 18".

Everyone in fashion these days is talking about purple. We're already seeing it featured in the windows and showrooms of the leading designers. What better way to display purple than with a beautiful amethyst necklace?

ABOUT AMETHYST
It is said that Amethyst helps you attain wisdom. It also stimulates intuition. You may want to wear it when you need assistance in releasing anything that is holding you back from fully realizing your destiny. Amethyst is the birthstone for the month of February. Purple is the color of spirituality and royalty.

Fire Up the Kiln for Silver!

Tri-Color silver pendant, shown larger than actual size. The pendant size is 1-1/2" x 1".

I created this pendant from .999 silver (that's a higher content of silver than sterling silver which is .925), so that is almost pure silver!

During the beginning soft clay process I overlapped layers of clayr to give it texture and visual interest. After the piece was fired in the kiln, I burnished and polished certain areas and painted liver of sulphur on other areas to achieve the desired coloration. There are subtle silver, blue, copper and gold tones throughout.

Crackled Agate: Power and Stability

Crackled Agate is a beautifully patterned stone and the focal point of this piece. After creating the pendant in the shape of a scroll I painted it with an interesting free form, organic pattern of black, gold, bronze, and silver. With fine wire I added a smooth, polished oval shape Crackled Agate which has a range of creamy oranges. The strand is composed of Sterling Silver beads from Bali and fire polished crystal beads for a subtle glow.

HEALING PROPERTIES
Agates are considered Power Stones. The are very grounding, solid and stable. They are stones credited with healing the Root Chakra. All Agates have excellent protective and healing energy, and stimulate analytical capabilities and precision. Colorful agates and other chalcedonies were obtained over 3,000 years ago from the Achates River, now called Dirillo, in Sicily.

Size of pendant 2-1/4" long x 1-1/2" wide. Length: 15" with an extender it can expand up to 17".

Pisces, Yin Yang or Simply Magic?

During the creation of this pendant "Pisces, Yin Yang or Simply Magic" I never intended it to become a design with two fish. After it was finished and I returned to "reality" I was amazed to see what had transformed before my eyes.

I have learned as an artist to trust and allow divine inspiration to make magic through my heart and hands, then release my art for others to perceive as they wish. Whether you see two fish or not, there are a lot of details in this piece that leave much to the imagination of the viewer. And the many raised and textured surfaces makes this pendant very appealing to the touch.

Surprisingly, the entire necklace weighs less than 1 ounce! I make sure all of my wearable art pieces are extremely comfortable to wear.

My Pisces friends like to see this piece as representing their astrological sign. Those born in the sign Pisces are highly imaginative and sensitive, compassionate and kind, selfless and unworldly, intuitive and sympathetic. I am very blessed to have many Pisces friends.

Wisdom with Wings: Lapis Lazuli

I created this one-of-a-kind pendant by sculpting a detailed wing design, painting blue hues, then adding a strand of lapis lazuli, aurora borealis Swarovski crystals, and cats eye beads for a modern sensibility. For this pendant I felt compelled to create a matching bracelet with lapis lazuli and aurora borealis Swarovski crystals so it reflects a rainbow of colors.

This necklace combines traces of ancient history with modern design. My many visits to the Metropolitan Museum here in New York have undoubtedly influenced the direction of this piece, but as with all my work, it takes flight and departs the natural world to find its own place in a time of its own.

Lapis Lazuli was prized by the ancient Egyptians and holds the energy of a star-studded sky, limitless in its wisdom. It's a wonderful stone for teachers, creative writers, artists and performers as it enhances both intuition and communication skills.
